Task 2: Ideas for a Studio Show

Programme format (e.g. studio production) and initial production scenario (e.g. game show)
Studio based production: Celeb Chat quiz show

Development of programme ideas: Content idea, visual style, presenter style
4 “celebrities” would each be asked questions and to perform in all 8 different categories: guess the celebrity, guess the song, guess the movie poster, who directed it, who acted in it, gossip knowledge, act it out and sing it etc. if the one who pressed the buzzer first doesn't give the correct answer then it moves on to the other celebrities.

Each question consists of a star prize where the one who answered the question first and right would have another question to answer that is irrelevant to entertainment genre e.g. maths. If they get it right but have not won the game their prize would be given to the one who wins the game.

Each question is worth 50 points (£50). Whoever wins the game would have their points added with the other contestants points for example if 3 of the celebrities have £100 (£300) and the winner only won £50 the winner will end up with £350 and their prizes.

The winner will then choose whether they want to do the ultimate question in which they can double their cash and a grand prize by answering all 3 question right. If you lose everything.

List of equipment needs
6 cameras: 1 long shot of the contestants, 1 long shot on the host, 3 cameras doing close up shots on each celebrity, one camera on the “board” where it presents the prize and images, sound track etc. lastly a 2 cameras on the audience on both sides.

ROLES IN THE TV STUDIO

Task 1
I’ll be talking about what the different roles and equipment’s are used and why in a television studio enabling to understand the importance of it when making or during a live show.
I’ll be covering these points:
·         What do the roles involve?
·         What equipment is used for each role?
·         What have you learnt about these roles/equipment’s?

First of all: What is Studio Television?
It is an installation which video productions take place and record live or video tape. In a studio in which broadcasts live entertainment or lectures would have an audience responding to what they see whether if it’s a comedy soap drama or a live chat show. The show is then operated and sequenced from casts of many different roles such as the sound mixer who controls music, volume and effects. It is all directed from both the director and producer.

Director: They are the ones to direct the whole cast and staff in order to keep things the way they planned it. They direct the activities involved in making a television program and are part of a television crew. Their duty is varied as it depends on whether the production is live such as the news or recorded as in if it is an interview production.

Vision Mixer: They sequence the footage being shown and adding effect when switching to another video source such as either from another camera in a different angle or a different footage that was made outside of the current studio such as a music video. They operated with a  video vision mixer which consists of many different button in which they can use for effects whilst views the show on multiple screens of different shots and angles which is done by cameramen. They are also known as video switcher, video mixer or production switcher.

Teleprompter: This is a display device with visual text that helps the one speaking read of words from a script or speech. Behind the screen is a camera in which helps makes the spokesmen look like they're talking to the viewers. This is done from a person behind the scenes on a computer. It’s similar to reading cue cards however with all the information than bullet points. By doing this the one reading off the text helps make them appear as if they're looking at the camera so it helps make the audience feel involved.

Camera Operator: They record what’s in front of them in different angles and shots in order to make it appear more interesting. In television studios they are told what angle and shot they are to do in which the vision mixer, producer and director helps monitor. They carry around a camera, a headset with a mic in order to hear instructions from the vision mixer, producer and director.
in order for the camera to be on focus they have to zoom in really close, fix the focus and then zoom out to the shot they are told. That way, it’ll appear clearer.

Floor Manager: They are to command those in the corporal room ordered from the director. They are too also making sure that the equipment is working on set before and during the show. They are a little similar to the producer however a producer amongst the studio floor set. They carry around headphone in which they can hear the orders from the director and producer and a volume box in which they can control the volume of their headset when talking to the director, producer or staff. I had learnt that they need good communication skills as well as managing the set floor.

Talent/Presenter: A presenter is to introduce and present the show whilst looking onto a Teleprompter also ordered from the director and producer on what to do. Depending on the style and genre of the show, the presenter tends to interact with the audience in order to make it more interesting. Whilst the talent is either a guest on the show or is there to perform, they aren’t told what to say or do but are good use for entertainment. The presenter can either carry a hands-on mic or a mic attached on a wire around their ear enabling to do hand motions. Some presenters can may double their role as some presenters are celebrities such as actors, singers, dancers or comedians etc making the show more interesting.

Sound Mixer: They responsible in recording all sound recording on set during a filmmaking or television production. Using professional audio equipment they are to make sure that unattended sound isn't heard. They also can use sound effects. They are normally are the ones carrying a boom mic.

LOOSE WOMEN VISIT

Loose women reviewi wasen't able to go a visit the live loose women show at the studio and so had watched some episodes and watched back the one my class went to and based my 5 top knowledge of the TV STUDIO production from that.

1)     Having to look through some studio channel shows such as loose women, take me out, friends and Ellen; sequencing camera is key when  it comes to presenting what is on stage such as a presenter, entertainer etc.

Some camera use a track to move forward and back, left and right (panning)easily (everything is spaced out in order to move the cameras e.g. the stage and audience) to avoid any hazards.

This is so they can capture the facial expressions and body language given to the audience in which keep then engaged such as if a presenter was facing a camera and talking directly to it seem as if they're talking to you. This makes you more engaged to watch, more and concentrate on what they’re saying/doing.

2)     Row of audience (roughly 8 rows with 10 seats) a few feet away from the stage where the presenter stands.
In between them are the camera being directing on what to do by the director/floor manager.

3)     Roughly 7 cameras

4)     Once on has finished speaking or (whilst they’re speaking) they cut to different camera shots every 3 – 7 seconds.

5)     The same times add in clips and images for examples of what they're saying.
